Othello's seasonal moisture, combined with clay-rich soil that retains water, leads to damp fence posts. This moisture allows mold spores to thrive on wood surfaces and causes bottom rails to swell and the gate frame to sag, especially if the wood isn't sealed.

Look for dark green or black patches on the wood (mold), a gate that drags or won't close properly, soft or spongy wood near the bottom, and twisted or warped fence boards. If moisture damage is caught early, ABC Fencing can often reinforce or replace just the affected sections.

For existing mold, we power wash and treat the wood with a mold-inhibiting sealant. For sagging gates, we install a tension cable or replace the hinges with heavy-duty, stainless steel fixtures. When sections are too damaged, we recommend replacing them with pressure-treated or rot-resistant wood that's properly graded for Othello's moisture levels.
