Heaving typically happens because of our freeze-thaw cycle. Water gets into the soil around the post, freezes, expands, and pushes the post upward. C&H solves this by setting posts below the frost line (usually deeper than standard) and using gravel at the base for drainage. For existing fences, we can cut and reset posts or install concrete anchors to prevent further movement.

Look for soft, crumbly wood at ground level, peeling paint, or dark stains. In Hendersonville’s humid mountain climate, rot often starts where posts meet the ground.
