The main cause is soil movement. Lubbock’s expansive clay soils swell when wet and shrink when dry, shifting the fence posts. This movement can throw off your gate’s alignment, making it drag on the ground or fail to latch properly.

Look for visible leaning posts, a gate that sags or sticks, gaps between the fence and the ground, or cracks in the soil around the posts. If your gate no longer stays latched or you have to lift it to close, it’s a clear sign of post instability.

We assess the post foundation and often reinforce it with metal brackets or by welding a new steel base plate that resists shifting. For the gate, we re-weld or adjust hinges and add reinforcing bars to maintain alignment. It’s a permanent fix that doesn’t rely on wood that can rot or warp.
