The main cause is high wind hitting solid panels, combined with shallow post footings in our expansive clay soil. The wind acts like a sail, pulling the posts loose over time. We fix this by removing the damaged section, setting new posts at least 24 inches deep into concrete below the frost line, and either using semi-private pickets with wind gaps or reinforcing the panels with horizontal rails on both sides.

If your gate drags on the ground, leaves a gap at the top, or won't latch unless you lift it, the posts have likely shifted. This is common after heavy rains swell our clay soil, then dry and shrink. Letting it go can twist the entire gate frame. We can realign the post, replace it with a galvanized steel post set in concrete, and install a self-closing hinge to prevent future alignment issues.
