Our coastal moisture and salt air cause wood posts to rot from ground contact, especially if they aren’t pressure-treated for ground contact. Freeze-thaw cycles in winter also heave posts up, making them lean. HRC Fencing solves this by setting posts in concrete with gravel drainage and using rot-resistant materials like vinyl or aluminum where possible.

Check for signs like rotting wood at the base, rusted gate hinges, or a general lean of more than a few degrees. If only a few posts or sections are damaged, we can often repair them. However, if more than half the fence shows rot or instability, replacement is usually more cost-effective. HRC offers free site visits to assess your fence and give an honest recommendation.

Vinyl and aluminum are excellent choices—they don’t rust or rot and require little maintenance. For a natural look, we recommend pressure-treated cedar with stainless steel hardware.
