Fence posts rot fast here because of constant ground moisture and acidic soil. We treat this by setting posts in gravel or concrete, using pressure-treated or cedar lumber rated for ground contact. For metal posts, we apply anti-rust primers and seal connections to keep out moisture.

Rusting hardware is a common sign that the protective coating has failed. If it’s surface rust, we can sand and repaint with a rust-inhibitive paint. But if the hardware is pitted or weakened, we recommend replacing it with stainless steel or galvanized pieces that hold up to Lynden’s damp air.
