Questions and Answers

Our fence posts keep getting loose after heavy rain. How do you fix that here in Whitehouse?

That’s common with our clay soils here in Whitehouse. We dig post holes below the frost line, add a gravel base for drainage, and set the posts in concrete that goes above grade to shed water. For existing loose posts, we remove the soil, pour a concrete collar, and brace the post until it sets. That keeps the fence stable through wet seasons.

We want a new wooden deck but are worried about rot. What wood or materials do you use?

We use pressure-treated pine or, for longer life, tropical hardwoods like ipe or composite decking. On every deck we also apply a water-repellent stain and seal all cut ends. We flash the ledger board against the house and leave proper gaps between boards for drainage. That prevents the moisture problems that plague many decks around Lake Tyler.

Can you install a driveway that will hold up to heavy trucks and the hot Texas sun?

Yes. We install concrete driveways with a 4-inch minimum thickness (more if we expect heavy vehicles) and a proper sub-base of compacted gravel. We use air-entrained concrete with fiber mesh to reduce cracking from heat and ground movement. We also cut control joints every 8 to 10 feet so any cracks follow the lines we want, keeping the driveway looking clean and lasting longer.

About the Company

Living Waters Fence in Whitehouse, TX, brings over 45 years of combined experience to fence, deck, and concrete projects. We build custom fences that hold up to East Texas soil shifts, repair wooden decks damaged by moisture, and install concrete driveways that withstand local freeze-thaw cycles. Whether you need a new automatic gate for privacy off Highway 110, a wood fence around the neighborhoods near Cain Park, or a retaining wall to manage drainage near Lake Tyler, we handle the full job—from stain and weatherproofing to structural repair. Our crew lives and works in Smith County, so we understand how Whitehouse’s clay soil can shift fence posts and how humidity can rot deck boards. We address these issues directly: setting posts with concrete footings below the frost line, using pressure-treated lumber, and sealing gates to prevent latch failure. For residents off Main Street or near the high school, we also offer masonry repairs, arbor installation, and general construction for patios and exterior walls. We aim for work that lasts without using tricks or shortcuts.
