Loose fence posts are often caused by soil erosion from heavy rains, root growth from nearby trees or shrubs, or repeated ground movement during storms. In Homestead’s sandy soil, posts can shift over time. Our solution involves removing the loose post, clearing the hole of debris, and resetting it with concrete or a gravel base for better drainage and stability. For severe cases, we may install a new post with a galvanized anchor to prevent future movement.

Signs include vines wrapping around rails, roots pushing against posts or panels, and leaves or branches causing rust or rot by trapping moisture. You might also notice the fence leaning or gaps forming where plants press through. We recommend trimming back vegetation at least 2 feet from the fence line and removing any climbing vines. For existing damage, we can replace compromised sections and apply a protective coating to prevent rust on metal fences.

Ornamental aluminum or galvanized steel fencing is ideal because it doesn’t rust or rot, and it withstands high humidity and heavy rain. These materials are also less attractive to climbing plants and can be cleaned easily. We often pair them with a powder-coated finish for extra protection. For areas with aggressive root systems, we recommend setting posts in concrete with a gravel base to reduce shifting.
