The intense Southern California sun and UV radiation degrade the polymers in vinyl fencing over time. Standard vinyl can become brittle, fade, and crack, especially on south-facing fences. Swing & Slide recommends using UV-stabilized vinyl that includes titanium dioxide to resist sun damage and maintain flexibility.

Look for gaps between the fence and ground, doors that stick, or a visible tilt. Leaning often starts with loose posts or rotting wood. In LA, soil expansion from rain can also loosen posts. A quick test: push the fence at its midpoint—if it moves more than an inch, the posts may need reinforcement.

For sloped lots (common in Silver Lake or Echo Park), Swing & Slide uses stepped panel installation and sets posts deeper with concrete. We also recommend galvanized steel posts instead of wood to resist rot and movement. Proper drainage around posts can prevent soil erosion that leads to leaning.
