The main culprit is ground shifting. Phoenix has expansive clay soils that swell when wet and shrink as they dry, causing fence posts to move. Over time, this movement loosens the panels, especially if the posts weren't set deep enough or with proper concrete footings. Seasonal monsoons and drought cycles accelerate the problem.

Look for signs like the gate dragging on the ground, gaps between the gate and latch, or difficulty opening and closing it smoothly. You might also notice one side of the gate hanging lower than the other. If the misalignment appeared after a wet or dry spell, ground movement is likely the cause.
